Mi’kmaq – PEI – Canada Consultation Agreement

On August 13, 2012, the Governments of Canada and the Province, and the Mi’kmaq of Prince Edward Island, signed a landmark consultation agreement.

The Agreement establishes a clear and efficient means for Canada and Prince Edward Island to consult the Mi’kmaq on proposed actions or decisions that may adversely impact asserted or established Aboriginal and treaty rights.

The Agreement was signed by the Chiefs of Abegweit First Nation and Lennox Island First Nation, Federal Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, and the Premier of Prince Edward Island.
